Office Visio Stencil for Exchange 2013

by Arman Obosyan 18. January 2013 21:14

Creating visual representations of your on-premises, hybrid and Office 365 architectures, including Microsoft Exchange icons is helpful way to communicate your deployment. This Visio stencil provides icons -- many depicting servers, server roles, services, and applications -- that you can use in architecture diagrams, charts, and posters. These icons are primarily centered around on-premise deployments of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, as well as hybrid Office 365 deployments of Exchange 2013.

by Arman Obosyan 23. December 2012 18:48

System Center 2012 was released in April 2012, well before Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 were released. As a consequence, these Operating Systems weren't supported. This functionality was slated for System Center 2012 with Service Pack 1, among other new exciting new functionality.

This makes Service Pack 1 for System Center 2012 not just an ordinary Service Pack.

Per December 20, 2012, TechNet and MSDN subscribers can download System Center 2012 with Service Pack 1 in the following packages:

  • System Center 2012 – Virtual Machine Manager with SP1 (x64, ISO file, 1320 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager with SP1 (x64, ISO file, 4721 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection with SP1 (x86 and x64, ISO file, 904 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – Service Manager with SP1 (x64, ISO file, 404 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – Operations Manager with SP1 (x86 and x64, ISO file, 1059 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – Orchestrator with SP1 (x86, ISO file, 157 MB)
  • System Center 2012 – App Controller with SP1 (x64, ISO file, 77 MB)

All these downloads include the Chinese-Simplified, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, and Spanish languages, except for Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection (this download doesn’t include the Italian, Portuguese-Brazil and Spanish language) and both Operations Manager and Orchestrator (English only).

What’s New in Service Pack 1 for System Center 2012

Service Pack 1 for System Center 2012 is not just a maintenance release, it also includes a lot of new features:

Don’t deploy Windows Management Framework 3.0 on Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010

by Arman Obosyan 15. December 2012 09:58

Recently, Windows Update began offering the Windows Management Framework 3.0 as an Optional update. This includes all forms of update distribution, such as Microsoft Update, WSUS, System Center Configuration Manager and other mechanisms. The key bit here is that the Windows Management Framework 3.0 includes PowerShell 3.0.

Update Rollup 5v2 for Exchange 2010 SP2, Exchange 2010 SP1 RU8 and Exchange 2007 SP3 RU9

by Arman Obosyan 10. December 2012 11:01

Exchange 2010 SP2 Update Rollup 5v2 is released, v1 was pulled hours after release because of a DAG issue, this is fixed now.

Todays rollups also include security fixes for Microsoft Security Bulletin MS12-080. The Exchange team have the strange practice of using the rollups as the only vehicle for Exchange security fixes. This forces customers to deploy a complete rollup to be compliant. This year Exchange rollups were pulled 3 times because of quality issues, so in my opinion security fixes should also be made available as separate installers.

Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer Tool (Beta)

by Arman Obosyan 19. November 2012 23:40

What’s new with Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer? A lot!

Have you ever gotten a call from someone you know whose Outlook client is having trouble connecting to their email server? Don’t you just wish you had a tool that you could send to them that would walk them through a connectivity test and provide a simple way for them to send the results back to you?

Or perhaps you’re an administrator that has been using the Remote Connectivity Analyzer for years to verify email configuration, but wish you had a way to verify the same tests from within your organization, that provided the same diagnostic details as the RCA website?
